Tom Carney
Director Emeritus
Upon returning from the Korean War, Tom Carney started his career in the Facilities Management industry shoveling coal into the boilers in the basement of the New York Life Insurance Company building. Upon his retirement from New York Life, Mr. Carney was the Executive Vice President responsible for New York Life's home office properties worldwide.
At Turner School, Tom is currently responsible for Instructor oversight and continuing education & training, and became an Instructor at Turner in 1967 after having been a student at the school. Mr. Carney holds Teacher and DirectorLicenses issued by the New York State Department of Education.
Mr. Carney has served on numerous committees for the American Society of Heating, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Engineers (ASHRAE) and the National Association of Power Engineers (NAPE) in addition to acting as consultant for the DuPont & Dow Chemical corporations.
Tom obtained his Bachelor's degree in physics & mathematics from Fordham University, his Masters degree in engineering from The City College of New York, and his Masters in Business Administration from Fordham University.
Tom holds numerous licenses and certificates of Qualification, including the New York City Refrigeration Machine Operator's License, the New York City High Pressure Steam license, the EPA Technician 608 Universal certification, and holds a Certified Safety Professional designation form the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.
John Wilcox
Director/Instructor
Mr. Wilcox is currently employed as Assistant Vice President for Engineering Operations for the New York Life Insurance Company portfolio of properties, and was previously employed at the New York City School Construction Authority where he was responsible for oversight and review of Mechanical and Electrical Construction Specifications and Documents.
John joined the staff at Turner School in 1989, after having been a student at the school. Mr. Wilcox's duties at Turner include curriculum oversight & development as well as compliance with New York State Education Department regulations. Mr. Wilcox holds Teacher and Director Licenses issued by the New York State Department of Education. Mr. Wilcox obtained his Bachelor's degree in Engineering from the City College of New York and his Masters degree in Energy Management from the New York Institute of Technology.
Mr. Wilcox holds a New York City Refrigeration Machine Operators License, an EPA Technician 608 Universal certification and is currently pursuing his LEED AP designation from the US Green Building Council.
William Carney
President
Mr. Carney has had a varied career prior to joining Turner as President in 2002. After completing his Bachelors of Science in Economics at Northeastern University, Mr. Carney joined the staff of the Banking, Finance & Affairs Committee (US House of Representatives). While there Mr. Carney researched issues and legislation relating to fiduciary responsibility for environmentally compromised properties under RCRA and CERCLA (Superfund), and transparent exchange markets for pollution credit derivatives. From there Mr. Carney moved on to Adams Environmental Management where he was responsible for creating a financial risk assessment matrix for all environmentally compromised properties held in the liquidation portfolios of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC). After Adams, Mr. Carney moved to New York to take a position creating valuation models and trading crude oil & natural gas derivative options on the floor of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Mr. Carney's responsibilities at Turner include Operations, Corporate Relations and New Business Development. Mr. Carney holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation from the Association for Investment Management & Research and the LEED AP designation from the US Green Building Council. Mr. Carney holds an Agent's License issued by the New York State Department of Education.
Tauris McBride
IT Specialist/Instructor
Tauris McBride has served as the Technical director for Turner School since 2005. Since that time he has used his technical knowledge and design experience to create numerous learning systems, which have continued to allow Turner School to offer its customers a cutting edge experience, both in terms of material and delivery. He also serves as an instructor for both the Written and the Practical portions of the Refrigeration Machine Operators License Preparation Course.
Jessica Alvarez
Office Manager/Customer Service Representative
Jessica joined our Staff at Turner as an undergraduate intern during the summer of 2006. She continued on during her last year of undergraduate study at Sacred Heart University, and joined the staff full time upon her completion. She is an integral member of our team, and is the first person who our students see when they walk through our door. Ms. Alvarez is dedicated to making sure that every student has what they need to complete their course to the best of her ability.
Peter Labita
Instructor
Mr. Labita joined the staff of Turner School in 2006 having previously attended the school. Currently Peter is employed by Meridian Management Corporation in the capacity of Property Manager for the Air Train terminal at Jamaica Station. Previously, Mr. Labita has served as the Chief Engineer/Project Manager for the New York Pennsylvania Station, and prior to that managed nearly 2 million square feet of property for DynaServ Industries.
Mr. Labita is a licensed Refrigeration Machine Operator, a licensed Fire Safety Director and holds a US EPA Technician 608 Certification. In addition, he is close to completion of the Systems Maintenance Administrator (SMA) designation issued by the Building Owners and Managers Institute (BOMI). Peter also holds a Teachers License issued by the New York State Department of Education
Lyle Austin
Instructor
Mr. Austin joined the staff of Turner School in 2002, after having previously been a student at the school. Mr. Austin is currently employed with Forest City Ratner Properties as an Assistant Chief Engineer in their MetroTech Center facility. Previous to MetroTech, Mr. Austin was the Senior Mechanic and Critical Systems Engineer for the American Stock Exchange. Prior to his joining Turner, Lyle was an Instructor in the fields of Plumbing, Electricity and Building Maintenance at Berk Trade School in Brooklyn, New York.
Mr. Austin is a licensed Refrigeration Machine Operator, a licensed Fire Safety Director and holds a US EPA Technician 608 Certification. In addition, he has completed the Systems Maintenance Technician (SMT) designation issued by the Building Owners and Managers Institute (BOMI). Lyle holds a Teachers License issued by the New York State Department of Education.
